OCEAN BANK PRESIDENT, JOSE A. CONCEPCION RECEIVES THE MONSIGNOR BRYAN O. WALSH HUMANITARIAN AWARD FROM MERCY HOSPITAL FOUNDATIONMIAMI, FL—November 6, 2006 – Ocean Bank President and Chief Executive Officer, José A. Concepción, is the recipient of the Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award from Mercy Hospital Foundation. The award was presented to Concepción by Sergio Pino, President U.S. Century Builders, during the Mercy Foundation Gala held in late October. Concepción is involved in numerous human service organizations. Through his involvement he brings people together to make a difference in the lives of children of all ages, small business owners, entrepreneurs and the community in general. "I am humbled to receive this award today and for this recognition from Mercy Hospital Foundation, Sergio Pino and so many leaders in our community," said Concepción. "I accept this award on behalf of Ocean Bank’s directors, officers and employees who work diligently to make sure that we are doing good things for our community," he added. The Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award was instituted by Mercy Hospital Foundation to recognize an individual who has exhibited a deep sense of commitment to our community. In particular, the recipient is one whose dedication encompasses the greatest elements of humanity – love, compassion, hope and opportunity. Through his or her commitment, the recipient has made a significant impact in the lives of children and adults of our community. Through his trust and vision, Concepcion opened the door to hope and opportunity for many small businesses on their path to success. In addition, Ocean Bank has set an incomparable example of philanthropy which has made a significant impact in many not-for-profit organizations in our community. "It has been Jose Concepcion who has instilled the humanitarian spirit throughout the entire Ocean Bank organization," said Josie Romano Brown, President of Mercy Foundation. Concepción places enormous importance on the value of education. Because of this, he created the Ocean Bank Center for Education Materials, one of the many ways he has championed the students and teachers of Miami-Dade County. The OBCEM is an independent nonprofit that was originally created to replenish school supplies after Hurricane Andrew. Since 1993, Ocean Bank has donated more than half a million dollars to the center and each week the center is visited by teachers from nearly every school in the district to obtain much-needed classroom materials. Under Concepción’s leadership, Ocean Bank has also funded Boys and Girls Club of Miami’s Alex Rodriguez Educational Center, Florida International University’s College of Business Administration, The United Negro College Fund benefiting Florida Memorial University, Orange Bowl Foundation/Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Scholarship Fund, Miami-Dade College, Liga Contra el Cancer, Mercy Hospital Foundation, Jackson Memorial Hospital Foundation and much more.

The Mercy Foundation is the principal fundraising arm of Mercy Hospital. A volunteer board of directors comprised of community leaders and key supporters manages it. In the last five years, the Foundation has been instrumental in the success of many valuable projects and community outreach programs, including the upcoming expansion and renovation of Mercy’s Emergency Department, the St. John Bosco Clinic, the School of Licensed Practical Nursing, the Kohly Center for Rehabilitation and the Colt Neuro-Intensive Care Unit.
